Paintless dent repair

If the paint isn't broken, a dent can usually be worked out from behind the panel. No filler, no sanding, no repaint, and no color match to get wrong.

How the dent comes out

We read the dent first. A striped light board reflected in the panel shows every low spot and high spot, including the ones you can't see in daylight.

Then we get behind it. Most panels have access through a window opening, an inner panel hole, or a light or trim piece that comes off and goes back on. Where there's no access, we pull from the outside with glue tabs that release cleanly from the paint.

The metal goes back in small pushes, a lot of them, while we watch the reflection straighten. High spots get tapped down so the panel reads flat from every angle, not just straight on.

Why it beats filler and paint

Factory paint is better than any refinish. It's baked on at the plant, it matches every other panel because it is the same paint, and it doesn't show up on a paint-depth gauge when a dealer appraises your trade-in.

It's also faster. A typical door ding is a same-visit repair, not a week at a body shop waiting on paint to cure.

Lease returns and trade-ins

Dings are one of the most common excess-wear charges at lease turn-in, and appraisers knock value off for them at trade-in. Fixing them first often costs less than the charge. Check your lease's wear guide, then send us photos and we'll tell you which ones are worth doing.

Good fit

  • Door dings and small round dents
  • Dents on doors, fenders, quarter panels, hoods and roofs
  • Dents where the paint is intact, even if it's deep

Not a fit

  • Cracked, chipped or flaking paint at the dent
  • Plastic bumper covers (a different repair)
  • Metal that's torn or badly stretched

Common questions

What is paintless dent repair?

It's a way to remove dents by reshaping the metal back to its original form, working from behind the panel with steel rods or pulling from the front with glue tabs. Nothing is filled, sanded or repainted, so the factory paint stays on the car.

Can my dent be fixed without painting?

If the paint isn't cracked or chipped, usually yes. What limits it is how sharp the dent is, whether the metal is stretched, and whether we can reach it. Text us photos and we'll tell you honestly before you come in.

How long does it take?

A single door ding usually takes an hour or two. Several dents can take most of a day. Hail damage ranges from a day to several days, depending on how many panels were hit and whether trim or the headliner has to come out. You'll get a timeline before we start.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the dent's size and depth, where it is on the panel, whether the panel is aluminum, and how hard it is to reach. A small door ding costs a lot less than a creased quarter panel. We give you a price before we start, and photo estimates are free.

Will the repair hurt my paint?

No. Factory paint flexes more than people expect, and paintless repair moves the metal underneath it slowly. If the paint was already cracked at the dent, paintless repair isn't the right fix, and we'll say so before starting.
